Question from reader: How can I overcome weariness?
Ah, weariness...... we all experience it and sometimes wonder if we will ever feel rested. I remember an old saint sharing with me when I was worn out as a young mother, struggling to do everything, and still longing to grow spiritually. She said, "Sometimes the most Spiritual thing you can do is take a nap." I was stunned..... and wondered how on earth I could ever fit a nap into an already overpacked day. And how can napping be Spiritual? I found out that if I could give myself even 10-15 minutes alone, lay down and just concentrate on the Lord, it made a world of difference in my energy and attitude.
Sometimes we need to stop and reconsider our obligations. Are we doing more than we need to do? The old saying, "if you want a job done well, find a busy woman and ask her to do it" means that we are accepting responsibility for more than God intends us to handle.
I realize that in today's busy culture there are no easy answers. However, I have found that as we will take care of ourselves, which includes cutting back, taking breaks from busyness, find a quiet spot to rest and refocus, in the long run you will be more effective. Remember the Lord said, "Come to me all you who labor and are heavy laden and I will give you rest." Jesus went apart to be alone and pray, and if He needed that time to recharge, how much more do you and I?
You will never have enough time.....so you must schedule the time in just as you schedule work, car pool, play dates, cleaning, laundry etc.
My prayer for each of you is that you would indeed learn to "Rest in the Lord." Ps.37:7
Trusting in Him,
